Khamenei vows severe retaliation after Israeli strikes kill IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists

TEL AVIV (Realist English). Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed in an early morning address that Israel had carried out extensive strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, missile infrastructure, and senior scientific leadership, describing the offensive as a necessary step to prevent what he called “an existential threat” to the Jewish state.

“We struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment and weaponization programs,” Netanyahu said in a video message flanked by top security and cabinet officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. “We targeted Iran’s leading nuclear scientists and key elements of its ballistic missile capabilities.”

Among the targets, he said, were Iran’s main uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, as well as air defense systems, weapons depots, research labs, and residences and command centers of senior Iranian officials. The prime minister characterized the initial wave of strikes as “very successful” and suggested the operation would continue for “as many days as it takes.”

Netanyahu, addressing a nation on edge, framed the attack as a preemptive measure after months of escalation in the shadow conflict with Iran and its regional proxies, including Hamas and Hezbollah. “We cannot leave this threat for the next generation,” he said. “If we don’t act now, there might not be a next generation.”

In anticipation of Iranian retaliation, Israel’s Defense Ministry declared a nationwide state of emergency and instructed citizens to prepare for missile and drone attacks, advising extended shelter stays. Across the country, Israelis took refuge in fortified rooms and public shelters, bracing for incoming strikes.

“We are entering difficult days — but also great days,” Netanyahu said. Repeatedly invoking the memory of the Holocaust, he warned against underestimating the danger posed by a nuclear-armed Iran. “Together, with God’s help, we will ensure Israel’s eternity.”

The Israeli campaign marks a dramatic escalation in a conflict that has simmered for over 20 months, bringing it into open confrontation between two regional powers. Netanyahu made clear that Israel would not back down, even as the region braces for potential retaliation and broader consequences. “We are racking up achievements,” he said. “But I know, and you know, there are no easy wars.”
